ART
in Healing Spaces
Enriching health care settings with original art
“These will heal you. ”
~ Henri Matisse, 1945
(placing his paintings
around the bed of a sick friend)

"Three Kayakers"
by George Johanson
ART in Healing Spaces is a program to
place original artwork in health care settings. Developed by Sally
Hart Retecki Consulting, the program is in the initial phase of
selecting a portfolio of high quality fine art.
We believe there is an urgent need for high quality
original fine art in health care settings. A good painting is a communication,
a message, a connection with the viewer and a window into what is alive
and present. It lifts the spirit and feeds the soul. With good art
in the waiting room, the healing process begins immediately, before the
patient even sees the doctor.
We'd like your help. Let us know what
kind of art would work well in your clinic. We will summarize all answers
and post them on our website.

2008 Billi Odegaard Public Health Genius Awards
“To leave the world a bit better,
whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition;
to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
This is to have succeeded.”

Portland, Oregon
As part of Community Health Partnership’s commitment to develop
the public health workforce in Oregon, the CHP Board of Directors established
the Public Health Genius Awards in 2002 to recognize and inspire innovation
and responsiveness in improving the health of the public. Recipients of
the Public Health Genius Awards are distinguished by their creativity,
risk-taking and boldness in forging collaborative solutions to public
health problems.
Nominees are Oregon residents whose primary work is related to improving
the health of the public in areas such as public health, environmental health,
disease and injury prevention, wellness and health promotion or improving
health services to underserved, rural or minority populations. Recipients
of Public Health Genius Awards (Genius Award, Exceptional Achievement Award
or Merit Award) receive a cash award, half of which is donated to the community
health organization or charity of their choice.
This year's speaker is Margo Wootan from the Center for Science in the
Public Interest.
